Salesforce acquires Informatica in $8B AI data deal
Salesforce buys Informatica for $8 billion to boost AI data tools, enhancing enterprise AI capabilities and data governance.

Salesforce has announced its acquisition of Informatica, a leader in enterprise AI-powered data management, in an $8 billion deal. The transaction, finalized on May 27, 2025, marks Salesforce’s largest acquisition since its $27.7 billion purchase of Slack in 2021.
The deal aims to strengthen Salesforce’s AI and data infrastructure, particularly for its Agentforce platform, which enables businesses to deploy autonomous AI agents for tasks like customer service and recruiting. Informatica’s advanced data catalog, governance, and integration tools will enhance Salesforce’s ability to deliver trusted, scalable AI solutions.
Informatica brings critical data management capabilities to Salesforce, including metadata management, data quality controls, and Master Data Management (MDM). These tools will help Salesforce customers unify and govern data across hybrid and multi-cloud environments, a key requirement for enterprise AI.
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff emphasized the strategic fit, stating the combined platforms will create the industry’s most complete agent-ready data solution. The acquisition also positions Salesforce to compete more effectively in the $150 billion-plus enterprise data market.
Analysts view the deal as a win-win. Salesforce gains robust data governance tools, while Informatica benefits from Salesforce’s extensive ecosystem. However, some experts warn of potential complexities, including pricing changes and reduced support for Informatica’s on-premise solutions.
The transaction is expected to close in early fiscal 2027, pending regulatory approvals. Salesforce will fund the deal through cash and new debt, with anticipated margin accretion starting in the second year post-closure.
This acquisition underscores Salesforce’s commitment to AI-driven growth, following its recent $1.9 billion purchase of Own Company for data security. With Informatica, Salesforce solidifies its position as a leader in enterprise AI and data innovation.
