While coliform itself isn’t always harmful, its presence suggests possible hygiene issues during production, raising the risk of more dangerous pathogens like E. coli.

The recalled butter was distributed across seven states: Arkansas, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. Consumers in these areas should check their refrigerators for the affected product, identifiable by a best-by date of September 9, 2025, lot number 090925-055, and UPC code 0 78354 62038 0.

Is It Safe to Consume?

The FDA has classified this as a Class III recall, meaning it’s unlikely to cause serious health issues. No illnesses have been reported so far. However, experts advise caution, as coliform could signal other contaminants. Cabot’s parent company, Agri-Mark, recovered 99.5% of the affected butter before it reached stores, with only 17 packages sold in Vermont.
