Atwood Music Hall opens in Madison amid Juneteenth celebrations
Madison’s Atwood Music Hall debuts with live events as New Bern and other cities host vibrant Juneteenth festivities.

The newly renovated Atwood Music Hall officially opened its doors on June 13, 2025, marking a major addition to Madison’s live music scene. The venue, a historic church transformed into a state-of-the-art performance space, kicked off its inaugural weekend with a tribute to legendary drummer Clyde Stubblefield, benefiting local radio station WORT-FM.

Highlights of the opening month include a comedy show featuring Kevin Farley on June 14, the Madison Area Music Awards on June 15, and a Latin music showcase on June 18. With a capacity of up to 700 attendees, the hall blends art deco design with modern acoustics, offering both seated and standing-room experiences.

Juneteenth Celebrations Light Up New Bern and Beyond

Meanwhile, New Bern, North Carolina, is hosting a multi-day Juneteenth celebration from June 7–23, featuring a parade, cultural workshops, and a fireworks finale on June 14. The event includes performances by the Junkanoo Commandos, a Bahamian dance troupe, and activities like youth basketball tournaments and STEM exhibits.

In Madison, Juneteenth events coincide with the Atwood Music Hall’s opening, emphasizing community unity and African American heritage. Other cities, including Ames, Iowa, are also hosting festivities, reflecting the holiday’s growing national significance since becoming a federal holiday in 2021.

Both the Atwood Music Hall debut and Juneteenth celebrations underscore the power of music and culture in bringing communities together. Visitors can expect vibrant performances, historical reflections, and family-friendly activities throughout the month.
